through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad.

Applications are invited for a Senior Nutrition & Food Security Advisor position in the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia.

Role and responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Head of Development, the Senior Nutrition & Food Security Advisor will be required to:

  • Oversee and develop the Nutrition & Food Security portfolio, manage the programme, grants and NGO and UN partners in accordance with agreed Embassy standards for programme management;
  • Provide technical oversight for the Nutrition & Food Security programming component of the Embassy’s new five-year strategy;
  • Contribute to the Embassy’s engagement in national level policy dialogue and external representation on Nutrition & Food Security issues, including participation in relevant technical working groups particularly the Government of Liberia’s Liberia Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Strategic Plan (LMNSP) 2023-2027, Scaling Up Nutrition and coordination meetings with Development Partners and Government Ministries;
  • Provide regular updates and briefs relevant to the Nutrition & Food Security programme as required and take responsibility for Nutrition & Food Security technical liaison with headquarters;
  • Coordinate closely with other colleagues across all pillars of the Embassy’s Irish Aid programme in
  • Other duties as required from time to time and directed by the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission as necessary.

 

Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Candidates must have a master’s degree in a relevant field such as; Nutrition, Public Health, Food Security.
  • Candidates must have at least 5 years of specific post qualification experience at the same level in a similar role with a bilateral or multi-lateral organisation, Government or NGO;
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience in strong programme planning, implementation, management and monitoring skills;
  • Candidates must have an excellent understanding of nutrition and food security issues globally and in a Liberian context;
  • Candidates must demonstrate using work based examples of providing excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, being persuasive, working in a team but also dealing effectively with people in external organisations;
  • The candidate must provide evidence of flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness showing strong organizational skills, attention to detail, able to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks;
  • The candidate should provide examples of being solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering results, including by adapting approach if necessary;
  • The candidate must demonstrate using examples, their working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • All applicants must have a permanent legal right to reside and work in Liberia

Terms and conditions of employment:

  1. The successful candidates will be hired on an initial 2 Year fixed term contract with a probationary period of 6 months and will be based at the Embassy office;
  2. Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week, with standard office hours from 8.30 AM to 5.30 PM Monday to Thursday and 8.30 AM to 13.45 PM on Friday.
  3. The salary for the position is $58,666.40 per annum, paid locally on a monthly basis. Salaries are paid direct to a bank account therefore the successful candidate must have a bank account.  
  4. The positions will have an annual leave allowance of 20 days per annum, exclusive of public holidays, adjusted pro rata.

Selection Process:

  • Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential/Key Requirements above.
  • It is planned that interviews will be held before the end of April 2023.
  • A skills test may be included in the recruitment process;
  • A second interview may be included in the recruitment process; and
  • A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates;

Security Clearance for Local Staff

Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position they will be required to supply this information again.
