How to Apply for a Passport

Apply Online

Irish citizens who have previously held an Irish Passport can now apply for their Passport Book and/or Card online.

You cannot apply online if you have already submitted a paper application.

If you are resident outside Ireland and do not qualify or wish to use the online system, you need to use an APS2 application form.

If you are resident outside of Ireland and do not qualify for or wish to use the online system, you need to use an APS2 application form.

It is available in Irish (APS2G) and in English (APS2E).

APS2 forms are available:

  • By calling to the Embassy during office hours
  • Contacting us (include your name and full address in the form) and we will post you the forms

The fee depends on the type of passport you apply for:

Standard Passports

Standard 10-year passport:

€95

Large 66-page, 10-year passport:

€125

Standard 5-year passport for minors (under 18 years)

€45

Temporary Passports (only issued in an emergency situation requiring urgent travel such as the death or serious illness of a close family member)

Adult:

€125

Minors (under 18 years)

€75

Emergency Travel Certificates

€30

Only intended for people who have lost their passport, or who have had their passport stolen, and must urgently travel to Ireland

Passport Certification Fee

€40 Passport Certification fee for Adults and Minors (under 18 years)

Out of Hours Fee

€80 Out of hours fee for Adults and Minors (under 18 years)

The above fees are effective from 30 March 2017

The Embassy of Ireland in Luxembourg does not accept cash or credit card payment in respect of Passport Fees and payment must be done on the following account:

Please ensure that the applicant's full name is included in the reference field so that we can identify your payment.

Passport applications without proof of payment will not be accepted.

Where to apply

If you are resident in Luxembourg and are not eligible, or do not have the possibility, to apply online, you may apply for your passport at the Embassy of Ireland in Luxembourg.

Passport application forms can be ordered online.

The Passport Section of the Embassy of Ireland in Luxembourg is open to the public from 10.00 - 12.30 Monday to Friday. Passport applications may be submitted within those hours without an appointment.

Passport applications can also be delivered by post without coming to the Embassy.

If you choose to post your application, we strongly recommend that you use registered mail or a reputable courier service. The Embassy cannot be held responsible for applications or documents lost in transit.
