Ambassador Pádraig MacCoscair, Embassy of Ireland Malta

Welcome Message

Merħba, fáilte and welcome to the Embassy of Ireland's website. I hope you find the website useful and if you have any suggestions on how it might be improved please contact us.

It is a great pleasure and honour for me to represent Ireland in Malta. The Irish and the Maltese appear to share much in common, particularly in terms of culture, character and what we value. I suspect that, given these similarities, the historical linkages between the Irish and the Maltese are as abundant as they are surprising - much remains to be discovered in this regard.

Friendships and affinities between peoples are important, for it is on these foundations that relations between nations and states are based. My mission in Malta is to build on these foundations cultivating an environment in which commercial, cultural, social and political relationships can grow and flourish.

Ann and I are happy to call Malta home and we look forward over the coming years to developing relations between our island nations hand-in-hand with our Maltese friends.

Merħba agus do chéad fáilte chuig suíomh gréasáin Ambasáid na hÉireann. Tá súil agam go mbainfidh tú tairbhe as an suíomh gréasáin. Má tá moladh ar bith agat i dtaobh conas a d'fhéadfaí é a fheabhsú, déan teagmháil linn le do thoil.

Is mór an chúis sásaimh agus an onóir dom a bheith i m'ionadaí ar son na hÉireann i Málta. Dealraíonn sé go bhfuil cuid mhór cosúlachtaí idir muintir na hÉireann agus muintir Mhálta, go háirithe i ndáil le cultúr, meon agus na rudaí a bhfuil meas mór againn orthu. Is dóigh liom gurb amhlaidh, i bhfianaise na gcosúlachtaí sin, go bhfuil a lán nasc stairiúil idir na hÉireannaigh agus na Máltaigh a chuirfeadh iontas orainn – is cinnte go bhfuil an iomaí gné den stair chomhroinnte nach bhfuil tagtha chun solais go fóill.

Is tábhachtach iad an cairdeas agus an bhá idir pobail, toisc gur ar an mbunchloch sin a thógtar an caidreamh idir náisiúin agus stáit. Tá sé de chúram ormsa i Málta tógáil ar an mbunchloch sin, agus timpeallacht a chothú ina mbeidh borradh agus bláth faoin gcaidreamh i réimsí na tráchtála agus an chultúir, i gcúrsaí sóisialta agus i gcúrsaí polaitiúla.

Tá áthas orm féin agus Ann cónaí a bheith orainn i Málta agus táimid ag tnúth le cur leis an gcaidreamh idir an dá náisiún oileánda seo againne agus muid ag obair as lámha a chéile lenár gcairde Máltacha.
