Embassy participation in EU Day events 2015

EU Day on 9 May was celebrated by a series of events in Bucharest in which the Embassy participated.

First up was Metro Europe Day on Friday, 8 May. Sixteen EU Member State Embassies took part by each organising activities at an assigned station along one of the main Bucharest Metro lines. The metro station assigned to the Irish Embassy was one of the busiest in the city, Piaţa Unirii 2, which is located at a bustling intersection in the city centre. During the evening rush hour Embassy staff were on hand to provide information about Ireland and to hand out tourist brochures to passing commuters.  Several hundred mini-tricolours were also distributed and the Irish dancers from STEYsha performed at intervals during the evening.

Later on, Ireland’s entry in the European Union Film Festival, Calvary, was screened at the Cinema Studio in central Bucharest. The audience included the Embassy Chargé d’Affaires and several other members of the Embassy team who were gratified at the audience’s appreciative response to the film.

Europe Day in Romania

On Saturday 9 May in Chişmigiu Park, promotional stands were made available to the Embassies of the EU Member States from 10 am to 7pm. The Irish stand was a popular stop for visitors to the park. Tourist and general information brochures, as well as tricolours, were once more in great demand. Ryan’s Irish Pub, which has just opened on fashionable Piaţa Amzei, was our partner for the day and their hardworking staff provided ample refreshments for the visiting crowds. The Sorted Session and STEYsha were on hand once again to enchant the crowd with traditional Irish music and dance.
