How to Apply for a Passport

Apply Online

Irish citizens who have previously held an Irish Passport can now apply for their Passport Book and/or Card online.

You cannot apply online if you have already submitted a paper application.

If you are resident outside Ireland and do not qualify or wish to use the online system, you need to use an APS2 application form.

If you are resident outside of Ireland and do not qualify for or wish to use the online system, you need to use an APS2 application form.

It is available in Irish (APS2G) and in English (APS2E).

APS2 forms are available:

  • By calling to the Embassy during office hours
  • Contacting us (include your name and full address in the form) and we will post you the forms

How much does an Irish Passport cost?

The fee depends on the type of passport you apply for:

Adult 10 year €95- 430 RON
Adult large 10 year €125- 565 RON
Standard 5-year passport for those under 18 years €45- 216 RON
Large 66 page, 5 year passport for those under 18 years €55- 265 RON
Emergency Travel Document* €30- 135 RON
Additional Fees  
Out of hours fee** €80- 361 RON
Passport Certification Fee*** €40- 181 RON

If you choose to pay by bank transfer/deposit please include a copy of the bank transfer/deposit slip with your application.

Passport applications can be delivered by post or by a reputable courier without coming to the Embassy.

We would encourage you to consult the relevant section of our website regarding the service you require before contacting the Embassy. 

If you want us to send you a passport application form by post please e-mail or call us and we will send it out to you.  If you need more than one form please let us know.

If you choose to post your application, we strongly recommend you to use registered mail or a reputable courier service. The Embassy cannot be held responsible for applications or documents lost in transit.
