Ambassador O'Hanrahan

Ambassador Orla O’Hanrahan became the 18th Ambassador of Ireland to the Kingdom of Sweden on 30 January 2015 when she presented her credentials to HM King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

I am very pleased to have this opportunity to record my first message as Ambassador of Ireland to Sweden. I would like in particular to extend my best wishes to the Irish community in Sweden – I look forward to meeting many of you over the time ahead.

On 30 January last, I had the privilege of handing over my Letters of Credentials, signed by the President of Ireland, to His Majesty King Carl Gustav XVI. I was honoured also to meet with Foreign Minister Wallstrom very recently to discuss issues of mutual interest. I am grateful to all the Swedish officials, especially the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the courtesy and welcome extended to me and to my colleague, Marianne Bolger, Deputy Head of Mission.

The ties of kinship and shared values between Ireland and Sweden are well established. They provide a strong foundation upon which to develop our relationship in many spheres, both as Member States of the European Union and across the global arena, in areas such as peacekeeping, human rights, environmental issues and overseas aid.

I am delighted that our Embassy now shares an office with Enterprise Ireland and Bord Bia, charged with promotion of trade and food exports respectively. I look forward to working also with IDA Ireland, Tourism Ireland and other agencies across a range of issues.
Le gach dea-ghuí, With all good wishes, Med Vänliga Hälsningar

Orla O’Hanrahan
Ambassador

Tá áthas orm an deis seo a bheith agam mo chéad teachtaireacht a bhreacadh síos i mo cháil mar Ambasadóir na hÉireann go dtí an tSualainn. Ba mhaith liom go háirithe mo dhea-ghuí a chur in iúl don phobal Éireannach sa tSualainn – táim ag súil le bualadh le go leor díobh sa tréimhse atá amach romhainn.

Ar an 30 Eanáir seo caite, bhí sé de phribhléid agam mo chuid Litreacha Dintiúir, a bhí sínithe ag Uachtarán na hÉireann, a chur faoi bhráid a Shoilse an Rí Carl Gustav XVI. Ba mhór an onóir dom freisin bualadh leis an Aire Gnóthaí Eachtracha Wallstrom le gairid chun saincheisteanna a bhaineann lenár leasanna araon a phlé. Táim buíoch de na hoifigigh de chuid na Sualainne, go háirithe Rannóg Prótacail na hAireachta Gnóthaí Eachtracha, as an gcúirtéis lenar fháiltigh siad romhamsa agus mo chomhghleacaí, Marianne Bolger, Leas-Cheannaire an Mhisin.

Tá ceangal láidir muintearais agus luachanna comhroinnte idir Éire agus an tSualainn. Fágann sin go bhfuil bunús láidir ann maidir le forbairt a dhéanamh ar bhealaí éagsúla ar an gcaidreamh eadrainn, mar Bhallstáit den Aontas Eorpach agus ar bhonn domhanda, i réimsí mar an tsíochánaíocht, cearta an duine, saincheisteanna comhshaoil agus cúnamh thar lear.

Tá áthas orm go bhfuil Fiontraíocht Éireann agus an Bord Bia, a bhfuil de chúram orthu cúrsaí trádála agus onnmhairí bia a chur chun cinn, in aon oifig leis an Ambasáid. Táim ag súil le bheith ag obair freisin le GFT Éireann, Turasóireacht Éireann agus gníomhaireachtaí eile i ndáil le saincheisteanna éagsúla.

Le gach dea-ghuí, With all good wishes, Med Vänliga Hälsningar

Orla O'Hanrahan
