Success for New Architecture: Ireland exhibition at KTH

The New Architecture: Ireland exhibition had a successful run at KTH School of Architecture in Stockholm 16 to 28 November 2015.

Launched at a special event at KTH on 16th November 2015 by the head of the School of Architecture, Anders Johansson, and Ambassador O’Hanrahan, the exhibition showcased six new and exciting Irish architectural practices to a wide audience including students and faculty at KTH as well as members of the public.

The exhibition formed part of Irish Design 2015, a year-long programme exploring, promoting and celebrating all aspect of Irish Design. It showcased six Irish architectural practices that have developed new ways of thinking and operating both inside Ireland and internationally. The exhibition featured the work of young practices that have developed new ways of thinking and operating both inside Ireland and internationally. This exhibition looks at the work of these practices and the promise they hold for architecture.

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, the award winning Irish architect, Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects, gave an inspiring public guest lecture at the KTH School of Architecture entitled ‘Imagining the Real’. Presenting themes in Grafton's work with Places for Learning and Architecture as new Geography, the talk focused on ways of working, and a search for making a connection between the real and imagined worlds. The exhibition remained in place in the foyer of the KTH School of Architecture, one of Europe’s leading architecture institutions, until the end of November. Therefore, New Architecture: Ireland had a significant exposure to around 550 students in addition to Faculty in the School of Architecture as well as the School’s many visitors from leaders in the field of Architecture and Design. In addition, the location of the exhibition made it possible for everyone on the KTH campus to see it.
