Ireland - U.S. Relations

Ireland-U.S. relations run deep over centuries and wide across many sectors

The links between Ireland and the United States of America run deep over several centuries and wide across many sectors – historical, cultural, social, sporting, business and political. The unique nature of the Ireland-U.S. relationship is underlined by the more than 30 million Americans who claim some ancestral connection with Ireland.
The Embassy works to facilitate and support existing connections and helps to foster new ones. High-level visits, such as that by the Taoiseach to Washington D.C. for St. Patrick’s Day-related engagements, as well as trade and economic missions, cultural events and Irish-American community-led initiatives, all offer opportunities to reinforce and expand these enormously important ties.
