I am currently in the US on holiday/visiting family and/or friends. Can I apply for a visa?

All visa applicants should apply for their visa in their country of permanent residence. The Consulate in Boston can only process visa applications from applicants living in our Consular area (Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island) who reside in the United states on a valid work or student visa or who are permanent residents of the United States. We cannot accept any visa applications from applicants in the US on the visa waiver programme or who are here on a B1/B2 visitors/business visa.

In exceptional circumstances (i.e. serious illness or death of a family member in Ireland), a visa to travel to Ireland may be issued by this office to the holder who is in the United States legally but who do not permanently reside here. In that event, proof of the exceptional circumstances will be required.
