Mayoral Mission to Dublin

It was a pleasure to accompany both Andy BurnhamMayor of Greater Manchester &  Steve RotheramMayor of Liverpool City Region on a joint mayoral mission to Ireland which was a celebration of the links between Ireland and North West England showing a commitment to strengthening cooperation between our two islands.

The two day visit was action-packed with the Mayors’ programme including a courtesy call on President Higgins, a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney TD, sharing experiences on directly elected mayors and tackling homelessness with Minister Darragh O'Brien TD, a virtual meeting with Tánaiste Leo Varadkar discussing two-way trade, green energy & skills,  a business & innovation summit, a tourism and culture symposium, and Tourism Ireland reception at the Guinness Storehouse, celebrating our musical links. The visit culminated with a celebration of our sporting connections with the Mayors hosted by the Football Association of Ireland at the Ireland vs Lithuania match 7 of the starting XI play for North of England clubs.
