Can I get my passport today?

Due to high levels of demand, passport applications are taking a minimum of eight weeks to process. Please note that if your passport application is incomplete or unclear, processing may take longer than eight weeks.

Passports are produced in Dublin. The Consulate General can, however,  issue temporary, limited validity passports on the same day in the case of a genuine emergency situation - i.e. involving the death or serious illness of a close family member.

If you are travelling at short notice for non-emergency reasons, it may be possible to avail of an expedited passport service with the payment of an additional fee. The turnaround time for expedited passports is ten working days, assuming the passport application has been completed in full and no information is missing or unclear. You will need to attend the Passport Office in person, and provide us with valid proof of your confirmed travel (airline ticket or email confirmation of your flight booking).

If you are visiting the US and your passport is lost or stolen, it may be possible to issue an Emergency Travel Certificate which is valid for one journey from the United States to Ireland. Please contact the Passport Office directly to arrange an appointment in this regard.
