George Bernard Shaw's Mrs Warren's Profession and the Millionairess

George Bernard Shaw's Mrs Warren's Profession and the Millionairess

Two plays by Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw will be performed in Portuguese at the Aliança Francesa Teatro until the end of September.

Considered one of the most important English-language playwrights, George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) is the author of 60 plays. Throughout his career, which ended to age 94, he has also worked as a journalist, novelist, music critic and theatrical and essayist.

The only person to have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature (1925 for "Saint Joan") and the Best Screenplay Oscar for "Pygmalion" (1939) Shaw’s influence on theatre, culture and politics extends to this day.

Both plays, with strong female characters at their centre, bring to life social themes with a wit unique to GBS.
