Auckland Irish Society 1916 Commemoration

The Embassy of Ireland is delighted to be able to support the Auckland Irish Society's programme of events to mark the centenary of 1916 featuring music, song, drama, debate, and history.

The commeorations in Auckland will see four events taking place over April, beginning with a lecture on the 1916 Easter Rising by Raewyn Robertson, on Friday 1st April.

On Friday 8th April there will be a musical evening featuring songs and music from the Rising.

Friday 15th April sees the Auckland Irish Club host the Great Debate on the Easter Rising.

The commerative series will conclude on Sunday 24 April, the centenary of the date of the start of the Rising, with an evening of music poems, speeches, and drama.

In 2012 the Auckland Irish Society celebrated the centenary of its founding. It is the centre of all things Irish in the Auckland region with a proud history of welcoming new arrivals and keeping the Irish culture alive and to the fore in New Zealand.
