Following on from the commemorative events on Easter Sunday, the Irish Australian Association of South Australia will hold an afternoon of historical reflections on the Easter Rising on the centenary of the date of the start of the Rising.

The afternoon event will be held at the Irish Club in Carrington Street, Adelaide, with special guest speaker Dr Val Noone, who will give a talk on ‘The Easter Rising – an important event in Australian history’.

He will be joined by a panel of speakers: Dymphna Lonergan, on the Irish census; Stephanie James on Reactions in South Australian newspapers; Simon O’Reilley on The South Australian Carmelites; Stephen Darley on 1916 and conscription in South Australia.

The talks will be followed by a panel discussion and questions. The afternoon will also feature songs and poetry performed by Malachy O’Reilly.

Relatives of those involved in the 1916 Rising will also be invited to speak.
