What's the best way to apply for my passport?
Irish Citizens who are over 18, and currently hold an Irish Passport can now apply online for their new passport. (If you have already applied through Passport Express or your Irish Embassy/Consulate you cannot apply online as this will delay both applications).
Children, first time, name change applicants and holders of passports starting with only the letter P or L cannot apply online.
If you are submitting a paper application the best way to apply for your passport is by post allowing plenty of time for the passport to be processed. We recommend that you use registered post or a reputable courier service as the Passport Office cannot accept responsibility for documents or applications lost in transit. Please mark your envelope “first time application” or “renewal” as appropriate. Please consult our current turnaround times.
The Embassy of Ireland Passport Office London postal address is :
114a Cromwell Road, London, SW7 4ES
Alternatively you can apply using Passport Express at these two designated post offices (this is a 15 day service)
Glasgow Post Office
140 West Nile Street
Liverpool Post Office
1 – 3 South John Street
Please note that residents in Great Britain cannot apply through the Passport Express Service operated by An Post in Ireland.
The Passport Office is open to members of the public travelling urgently from 09.30 - 16.30 Monday to Friday.
If you are travelling within 8 weeks, you may submit your application in person, along with proof of travel. You should make an appointment by booking online, to guarantee a time slot, before visiting the Passport Office at 114a Cromwell Road, London, SW7 4ES. Priority for appointments will be given to those with urgent travel needs. It may not be possible to facilitate those who attend the office without an appointment or who do not have proof or urgent travel.
Once your passport application is submitted, it is not possible to fast track the application.
