Embassy supports mine clearance efforts in Cambodia

This February, Head of Development at the Embassy, Ms Nuala O’Brien, visited the HALO Trust’s operations in Otdar Meanchey province to see first-hand the work on mine clearance that Irish Aid supports in Cambodia. Irish Aid has committed to providing €500,000 per annum in funding until 2016 to support this important work, and has funded nine demining teams, two survey teams, and one Mine Risk Education (MRE) team. In 2014, Irish Aid funded demining teams cleared 179 hectares of high priority mined ground, and completed 76 minefield tasks. 835 anti-personnel mines, 12 anti-tank mines and 1,959 explosive remnants of war were found and destroyed, benefiting over 61,000 people.
