Can I get my passport today?

Information for Irish residents on passport turnaround times

Allowing for postage, the current processing time for online applications is approximately 4 weeks. The current processing time for paper based applications is approximately 6-8 weeks.

A temporary passport can be issued on the day only in the case of an emergency situation (e.g. the death or serious illness of a family member).

In all other circumstances, the processing time for a temporary passport is a minimum of five working days.  Valid proof of confirmed travel (e.g. airline ticket/email) must be presented in order for any application to be processed sooner than the standard turnaround.
