Book on Poland in the Irish Nationalist Imagination

The Embassy hosted a launch of Dr. Róisín Healy’s book on “Poland in the Irish Nationalist Imagination, 1772-1922: Anti-Colonialism within Europe” on 31 May 2017.

Poland loomed large in the Irish nationalist imagination in the long nineteenth century. There was a keen interest in Poland’s loss of sovereignty, which was believed to mirror the experience of Ireland under British rule. Irish nationalists supported Poland’s uprisings and drew parallels between the causes of Poland and Ireland.

Published in this bicentenary year of the death of Tadeusz KoĹ›ciuszko, this book provides the first comprehensive account of the impact of Poland’s experiences of partitions on Irish nationalism.
