November 2017

16 November 2017: Visit by Minister Donohoe to Washington DC and NYC

From 13 - 16 November, the Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure, and Reform Paschal Donohoe TD travelled to Washington, DC and New York City to discuss tax, trade, and the importance of the Irish-US relationship.

4 November 2017: Trade mission by the Taoiseach to the U.S. West Coast

An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar visited the US West Coast on a trade mission from 1-3 November 2017. The primary focus of the visit was on growing trade, investment and tourism opportunities between Ireland and the US, and on highlighting Ireland's priorities in the context of Brexit and other international developments. The programme included a series of meetings with client companies and representatives of the IDA, Enterprise Ireland and Tourism Ireland in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Seattle.

Last Thursday, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling for the reintroduction of visa requirements for American citizens travelling to Europe. This resolution is nonbinding and, as of now, there has been no official change in visa requirements for US citizens travelling to Ireland.

15 February 2017: Minister Flanagan encourages young people to apply for J1 placements

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Charles Flanagan, TD, has welcomed the decision by the US authorities, as conveyed by the US State Department to the Embassy of Ireland in Washington, DC, to make available an additional 2,600 J1 placements for Irish participants in the J1 programme in 2017.
