St Brigid's Day 2021

St Brigid's Day 2021

February is the month of St Brigid and provides a fantastic spotlight to celebrate the creativity of women.

The Embassy was delighted to partner on an online event with Irish writer and poet Brigid O’Dea and the Reading for Pleasure programme operated by the National Literacy Agency of Malta.

Brigid O’Dea led the read along event with a highly engaging delivery of a story for 8-9 year old students from Birkirkara Primary School who joined online with their teachers from their socially distant classroom bubbles. Brigid drew on the story themes to incorporate a series of very engaging activities for the children. We had wonderful contributions and artwork from the children. There was great fun and learning in a warm and engaging environment.

The Chair of the National Literacy Agency of Malta, Professor Charles Mifsud, warmly introduced the session. Ambassador Duffy’s remarks explained the history of St Brigid’s Day and our focus today on the celebration of the creativity of women and as such was delighted to introduce Irish writer and poet Brigid O’ Dea.

Thank you to the children, their teachers, Brigid O’ Dea and the team in the National Literacy Agency of Malta for a wonderful online event!
