'An Cailín Ciúin' - the first Irish language film to be nominated for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards

The Embassy of Ireland organised a screening of the Irish-language film An Cailín Ciúin (‘The Quiet Girl’) in partnership with the Austrian Film Museum in Vienna on Saturday, 7th October. An Cailín Ciúin was nominated for an Oscar in the International Feature Film category earlier this year, the first ever Irish-language film to receive such an honour. The film was directed by Colm Bairéad and produced by Cleona Ní Chrualaoi, with funding from TG4, Screen Ireland, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

An Cailín Ciúin will be on show in cinemas throughout Austria from November 2023. Keep an eye on our social media channels for more information over the coming weeks.

The screening was followed by a traditionally Irish reception of Barry’s tea and fresh scones, locally sourced from The Cake Tree here in Vienna. It was a wonderful opportunity for members of the Irish community in Austria to come together for a catch up, or to meet new faces, after the long summer.
