Greenland Visit

This year, Ambassador Manahan participated in a Programme visit to Greenland arranged by the Danish and Greenlandic MFAs. There is growing interest in this massive island in the Artic region due to its strategic position, extensive resources, renewable energy and considerable tourism potential, and the impact of climate change. Over 80% of the island is covered by ice which is 4 km thick and in parts is melting at the rate of 1km per annum.

Greenland is the world's largest island and an autonomous Danish dependent territory with limited self-government and its own Parliament. Oil, gas, and rare earth mineral reserves include gemstones and uranium and Greenland is exploring options for global mineral business and energy. There is considerable investment in infrastructure underway.
