Celebrating St Patrick’s Day with Greenings

Celebrating St Patrick’s Day with Greenings

Despite the coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of all events, one important form of celebrating St Patrick’s Day still took place. Several landmarks around Slovakia turned green. Some are now traditional “greenings” such as the Carlton hotel, the new building of the Slovak national theatre in Bratislava and the Town hall in Trnava. This year some new locations joined this global celebration of friendship with Ireland and its people. The historical bank in Žilina, Budatín castle and the Cultural centre in Svit were among the new additions.

The Global Greening is an opportunity to create a visual message about Irish-Slovak friendship by marking Slovak landmarks green. It is also an opportunity for the Ambassador to visit different towns and meet Irish people there, as well as the many Slovak friends of Ireland.
