‌As part of the DFA’s Bloomsday Global Giveaway Campaign, the Embassy reached out to some public libraries and provided copies of Japanese books on Ulysses. In July 2022, Deputy Head of Mission Peter Neary visited three public libraries in Tokyo: Shinjuku Chuo, Shibuya Chuo and Chiyoda Libraries. We had a good discussion for possible collaborations and we look forward to working with them in the future, including in the context of St. Patrick’s Day next year.

Ireland Funds Japan Global Fun Run

On 1st October, nearly 40 members of the Irish community and affinity diaspora, including newly arrived Ambassador-designate Cole, turned out to take part in a 5km fun run organised by the Ireland Funds Japan. The run took place on the banks of the Tama river, and was sponsored by Eire Systems KK who have supported this event since its inception in 2017. While also a great way of bringing people together for a fun and healthy day out, the run also aimed at raising money for two very worthwhile charities in Japan and Ireland. In Japan, the chosen charity was Mirai No Mori, a not-for-profit organization that creates life-changing outdoor programs for abused, neglected, and orphaned youths in Japan, supporting their growth into happy and successful young adults. EPIC in Ireland was the second charity chosen, which advocates for the rights of children and young adults in the care system and aftercare and enables their voice to influence positive change in their own circumstances. Congratulations to all of those who took part on the day, to all those who donated, and particularly to Matthew Connolly and Padraig MacColgain of the Ireland Funds Japan for organising.
