Embassy joins Riga Pride events

Embassy joins Riga Pride events

Riga Pride 2022 took place from June 13 to June 18 with its central event, the Pride march entitled “Together for Freedom” happening on Saturday afternoon. To express solidarity with LGBTQ+ community in Ukraine, this year activists from Kyiv Pride joined Riga Pride. The Embassy team was proud to march together with like-minded EU and other embassies. At the concert after the march in Vērmanes dārzs Ambassador Friel, together with other representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, joined the Ambassador of France on stage, who spoke on behalf of the like-minded EU embassies with messages recalling solidarity with Kyiv, European values and the continued progress towards equality in Latvia.

The Ambassador also attended a flag-raising event at Kaņepes kultūras centrs on Monday to mark the beginning of the week. Both the Ambassador and our Deputy Head of Mission, Helena O’Donnell, attended the Riga Pride Hero Awards ceremony which we were glad to be able to sponsor again this year.
