Helsinki Irish Studies Seminar

Helsinki Irish Studies Seminar is pleased to present a talk by Marie-Luise Theuerkauf from the Department of Early and Medieval Irish, University College Cork.

The Seminar is entitled 'Over Hill and Under Hill: Dindshenchas Érenn and the knowledge which yet remains to be discovered'.

Dindshenchas Érenn 'the lore of eminent places' is the collection of legends which connects the origins of places, people and events with the Irish landscape. Stories are told about rivers, mountains, plains and forests obtained their names and about the peoples who settled in these places. In this way, the Dindshenchas is a unique corpus of etiological lore conceived by the minds of medieval Irish literati to record their diverse history.

The lecture will be held in the university of Helsinki, Study of Religions, Unioninkatu 38 (F Block), room F216.
