Bloomsday Celebrations in Mozambique

This Bloomsday, Embassy Maputo was delighted to collaborate with local rapper Dom Júnior to celebrate Irish and Mozambican culture and creativity.

Dom Júnior created this unique piece inspired by Bloomsday especially for the occasion, which was filmed against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean at the beach in Maputo city.

As well as this performance, the Embassy also marked Bloomsday by holding an online poetry competition and by posting a series of readings by Embassy staff of the recently launched book "Kioni: A Pequena Mandingueira" by Joana Vasconcelos and supported by the Embassy.

This book raises awareness on issues facing girls in Mozambique and is part of the Embassy’s continuous support in promoting girls’ education. The campaign "Elas vêem um futuro - 10.000 livros para 10.000 meninas" promotes literacy and education on issues affecting girls age 10 to 18, through the character named Kioni.
