General Travel Advice

Violent crime, including armed robberies, kidnapping for ransom, assaults and sexual assault, occur regularly on the island of Trinidad, especially in the capital, Port of Spain. Tourists have been targeted.

Irish citizens do not require a visa to enter Trinidad and Tobago.

A valid passport is required for travel to Trinidad and Tobago. Irish passports should have a minimum validity of 6 months and onward tickets are required for all visitors. Passport cards cannot be used.

Visitors to Trinidad and Tobago are advised to follow the guidance of national and local authorities and stay fully informed of what's going on by monitoring local news and social media.

Citizens can also follow the Embassy of Ireland, USA on social media to ensure access to relevant updates and alerts.

The hurricane season in the Atlantic normally runs from July to October. You should pay close attention to local and international weather reports and follow the advice of local authorities. Always monitor local and international weather updates for the region by accessing, for example, the Weather Channel, or the US National Hurricane Centre website.

Citizens with plans to be in the affected region during this period should consider the need to travel based on information relating to extreme weather projections.

The best help is often close at hand so if you have problems, try talking to your local contacts, tour operator representative or hotel management.

You can contact the emergency services in Trinidad and Tobago by dialling 911. Specific emergency numbers are:

  • Fire brigade: 910.
  • Ambulance: 811.

Zika Virus

There have been outbreaks of Zika Virus (a dengue-like mosquito-borne disease) in Central and South America and the Caribbean. Irish Citizens especially those with a weakened immune system or women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant are advised to follow guidance available on the website of the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).
