St Patrick’s Day 2019 in Texas

St Patrick’s Day 2019 in Texas

In addition to the visit by Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor to Denver, Colorado and Kansas City, Missouri for St Patrick’s Day 2019, the Consulate General of Ireland also participated in a number of events in Texas to celebrate the National Day of Ireland.

March is a busy month for the Consulate General of Ireland in Texas. Building on the visit by An Taoiseach (the Irish Prime Minister), Leo Varadkar, it was another successful year for Irish entrepreneurs, artists, musicians and film-makers at this year’s South Southwest (SXSW) Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas. In addition to the participation by a number of Enterprise Ireland-supported technology companies in the conference, the highlights at this year’s SXSW included the world premiere of the Irish film ‘Extra Ordinary’ starring Meave Higgins and two special 'Music from Ireland' events supported by Culture Ireland.

Following a busy week at SXSW, the team from the Consulate General of Ireland participated in a number of events in Houston, San Antonio, and Austin to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in Texas.

St Patrick’s Day is truly a global occasion where the contribution of the Irish to the history, culture and society recognized and celebrated. Although the team from the Consulate General of Ireland was able to attend a number of St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Denver, Kansas City, Austin, Houston and San Antonio, we know that there were many parades and festivals taking place throughout the southwest region of the United States on 16 and 17 March, 2019 including the Tulsa Irish Festival, the Dallas St Patrick's Parade & Festival, the New Orleans St Patrick’s Day Parade and many more.

We are grateful to all of the Irish community organizations throughout the southwest region of the United States for their efforts to celebrate and promote Irish culture and history on St Patrick’s Day.
