Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable Garden has won the ASEAN Sustainable Rural Products Award 2020.

The award ceremony of the ASEAN Sustainable Rural or Urban Tourism Products Award 2020 took place within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2020, in Brunei, on January 16.

The ASEAN Sustainable Rural or Urban Tourism Products Award is a noble award of ASEAN contributing to honouring and developing the brands of businesses and high quality tourism products and services in the region.

Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable Garden is the first organic farm in Hoi An, situated on the outskirts of the old city. It covers approximately 6,300m2. The farm was started in March 2014 and is now very successful with many customers looking for organic produce.

Here they grow an assortment of fresh organic produce depending on the season - from cucumbers, ochra, mustard leaves and morning glory to chillies, aubergines, spinach, papaya and tomatoes.

Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable Garden was supported by Action for the City Development (ACCD). ACCD built farmers’ capacity through farming training and technology. They also helped with marketing by bringing tours to support the garden, which supported the building of a small processing house where vegetables are washed and packed in preparation for distribution to customers.

Action for the City Development (ACCD) is a Vietnamese non-governmental organisation. The organisation works on sustainable and organic farming, sustainable livelihoods for farmers and a new model of farming cooperatives. ACCD was a partner of Irish Aid from 2009 to 2017.
