Online Passport Renewals

Online Passport Renewals

In March of this year the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade launched online renewals for passports. For this first time online passport renewal is accessible no matter where you are in the world – all you need is a connection to the internet. This means Irish diaspora who live around the globe can now expect the same passport service as Irish citizens living in the State.

If you are an Irish citizen, living outside of Ireland and have held an Irish passport you can therefore apply online for a renewal for a Passport Book or Passport Card. This process is fast and secure and can be completed on a mobile device or desktop.

As the video shows, there are many benefits to citizens living outside the state to renew online. Not only will the turnaround be much quicker (two weeks plus postage), but also applicants no longer have to physically go to an Irish Embassy or Consulate.

All you need to apply is a digital photograph, an email address and a credit/debit card. All the instruction are online and there is more information on the dedicated online renewals page.

A standard passport book online costs €80 with a large passport book online costing €110. You can also purchase a passport card for €35 and it is cheaper when you apply for a passport book and card at the same time.

There has been huge demand for this new and improved service and if you need to renew your passport think about doing it online.
