Cultural events Summer 2019

As the summer months approach, we are happy to inform you of the following events taking place around Spain which might be of interest to you:

  1. The Ambassador launched the exhibition titled O Camiño por Mar de Dublín a Compostela which will run from 7 June – 31 October, in the Museo do Mar in Vigo.
  2. Irish poet and Madrid resident John Liddy will be participating in the Feria del Libro on Saturday 15 June, from 12-14h, caseta 52 Booksellers. Everyone welcome to go along.
  3. The Nuala Irish Dancers in Barcelona will be celebrating their 10th anniversary with music, dance and activities for all the family on Saturday 15 June. For more information on this please see their webpage
  4. With Bloomsday fast approaching, we are delighted to let you know of the following events happening in Spain for the occasion:
  • Barcelona - The Ateneu Barcelonés will host Bloomsday celebrations on Thursday 20 June, starting at 16.00 in the Sala Pompeu Fabra. For more details please see their webpage
  • Bilbao - Join The Asociación Vasco Irlandesa – LagunCara for their James Joyce Fiesta on Sunday 16 June from 11-17.00, starting at bar "Dublín" (Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, Vitoria-Gasteiz). Please see their webpage for more details
  • Cádiz – Bloomsday celebrations will begin on Saturday 15 June in the Universidad de Cádiz (Edifico Constitución 1812 de Cádiz) starting at 12.00 with a very interesting programme of events for the day. Activities are also planned for Sunday 16 June. For more information please see here
  • Madrid - The Bloomsday Society in Madrid will be celebrating on Sunday 16 June in the Ateneo de Madrid, at 19.00. The event will pay homage to Irish author and hispanist Ian Gibson. Madrid based music group Púca Óg will also be participating in the evening’s celebrations. More details of the event can be found in the invitation and programme.
  • Madrid Desperate Literature Bookshop will once again be joining in the celebrations for Bloomsday on Sunday 16 June at 20.00, with music and readings from Joyce. There will be a €3 charge on the door.
  • Madrid – The Librería Café La Fugitiva will host a Merienda con Joyce on Sunday 16 June, starting at 12.00. For more details on the event please consult here
  • Málaga - The 9th Bloomsday on the Beach in Fuengirola will be taking place on Sunday 16 June at La Cepa Beach, starting at 07.45. For more details on the activities planned for the day, please see webpage
  • Zaragoza - The 6th Bloomsday in Zaragoza celebrations bring you "Visiones del amor en música y palabras desde el Ulises de Joyce", on Friday 14 June at 19.30, in Ibercaja Patio de la Infanta. Please consult their webpage for more information 
  1. On Tuesday 18 June Irish pianist Peter Regan will be playing in Madrid at the Arrocería Casa de Valencia, Madrid, at 20.00. For more information please see flyer and email pmmtickets@mail.com
  2. The Yeats Society Madrid will be hosting an evening of poetry and music on Friday June 21 at 20.00 in St. George’s Hall in Madrid. Please see invitation for further information
  3. The Ambassador will be launching the exhibition titled La Irlanda de Plácido Castro, in Vilagarcía de Arousa, Pontevedra, on Friday 21 June. This exhibition will run from 21 June – 31 July in the Fundación Plácido Castro
  4. Irish actor and director Denis Rafter will present Don Quijote de Dublín in the Teatro Municipal in Madrid on 23 and 24 July. For more details please see here
