Ireland Celebrated as Country of Honour at the Bürgerfest

Ireland Celebrated as Country of Honour at the Bürgerfest

Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne TD, visited Berlin to represent Ireland at the Bürgerfest.

The selection of Ireland as the Country of Honour underlined our close bilateral relationship with Germany.

With 15,000 in attendance at the festival over the two days, attendees had the opportunity to experience the amazing Riverdance on the main stage as well as visit the ‘Beautiful Ireland’ section of the park.  Here they were treated to culinary and cultural activities including traditional Irish music and fairy-tales, a demonstration of Irish hurling from Setanta GAA club as well as face painting and arts and crafts for younger participants.

Irish tourism, food and beverages were showcased by Tourism Ireland and Bord Bia together with their partners. This included specialities from Ireland, such as beef sandwiches and potato cakes with freshly smoked salmon.
