Opening of HDLU 6th Biennial of Painting

The Croatian Association of Fine Artists 6th Biennial of Painting featured a guest exhibition ‘Dubliners’, in cooperation with Pallas Project Studios presented works of Irish contemporary artists displayed in the Meštrović Pavilion from 21 October to 5 December 2021.

The Biennial of Painting was officially opened on 21 of October with speeches by State Secretary Krešimir Partl, Ambassador Dowling, Director of HDLU Tomislav Buntak and Irish curators Mark Cullen and Gavin Murphy.

A very successful programme of events to promote ‘Dubliners’ followed the opening of the Biennial of Painting including a tour of the exhibition for Ambassadors, organised by the Embassy, in which the artists gave a guided tour and discussed their work. On 23 October the artists presented their works in a panel discussion held in the Meštrović Pavilion. Morana Zibar held an Irish themed quiz in Galerija Bačva surrounded by the ‘Dubliners’ exhibition. Philip Napier and John Byrne lectured on a selection of their works to students in the Academy of Fine Arts on 16 November. Fraktura held an interview with author Eimear McBride and translator Anda Bukvić following the translation of Strange Hotel/Čudan Hotel.
