Literature Night 2018
News10 May 2018
The 12th Literature Night took place on 9 May 2018 in the Prague 1 Old and New Town districts and offered 18 contemporary European authors presented in attractive locations, many of which are usually not open to the public. Ireland was represented by a reading of Cré na Cille by Máirtín Ó Cadhain, wonderfully read by popular Czech actress Milena Steinmasslová. The reading took place in the most impressive setting of a restored salon in the Palacký and Rieger Institute (former home of the 19th century personalities). The readings were also attended by book translator Radvan Markus, who read a brief paragraph from the book in Irish before each reading and Prof. Mícheál MacCraith (University of Galway), who attended one reading, among other guests. The audience very much enjoyed the funny tone of the book and the very special tone of the place. Attendance was about 400 guests during the evening, i.e. full capacity of the place.
