Emigrant Support Programme

Strengthening connections with Irish communities abroad and promoting links with Irish people and people of Irish ancestry worldwide is also a key objective of the Department of Foreign Affairs. These communities are made up of Irish emigrants, their descendants, and those living abroad who share and celebrate an Irish heritage identity and global links with Ireland.

Central to achieving this objective is the Emigrant Support Programme, which is administered by the Irish Abroad Unit of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin, in partnership with Irish Embassies and Consulates abroad. After the Embassy in London, the Irish Consulate in New York manages the second largest number of grants under this programme.

Since its inception in 2004, the Emigrant Support Programme has assisted over 530 organisations in 36 countries with grants totalling over €190 million. Grants have ranged from small amounts for grass-roots groups, to major allocations awarded to voluntary and community organisations operating on a large scale.

The closing time and date for applications is 12.30pm Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, 24th February 2021. The closing date and time will be strictly applied and under no circumstances can applications be accepted after that time. Any attempt to influence the outcome of the decision-making process in relation to grant applications will result in disqualification.

The application for the ESP as well as information about the application process can be found here.‌
